The Disconnected
Growing social network adoption (Facebook in particular) is presenting a couple communication challenges. It really hit home for me in the last week or so although I started to notice it a while ago. More and more of my friends and family use Facebook often enough for it to be a viable communication medium (my Mom uses Facebook, that is my acid test for when a technology becomes mainstream). A...

When it comes to grief, a combination of a little self-awareness and an analytical mind is not a good thing.

Your funeral
A sombre shroud descended on us as we took you to your father;
It watched us silently as we walked together;
And when your brother spoke, it wept.
For my brother-in-law, Clifford Hoffmann, who passed away on Monday, 24 January 2011.
I’m at Norwood Mall (Johannesburg)
“Looks like the power still isn’t back on this side of Louis Botha Avenue. Our power returned after an hour or so, thank goodness. We seem to be on a different part of the grid. ”

– Procrastination is an ongoing challenge for me. I do it at precisely the time I can least afford to do it and I am only starting to understand why I do it. The last few days have been procrastination days and I came across two posts this morning which speak to this self-defeating habit in fairly...

The Best RSS Reader →
This is a nice intro to Feedly, a magazine-style RSS reader which syncs with Google Reader. I have Feedly on my iPhone and use it in Chrome and Firefox. It is a much better reading experience than Google Reader itself and NetNewsWire (which I occasionally open and use for 5 minutes).

The curious case of an indifferent Bombela, the...
Is this Gautrain-Pantless Brigade (I’ll just call the pranksters the “Pantless Brigade if that is ok with you) thing a curious case study. The whole thing makes Bombela look very much like bullies in my eyes and yet I wonder whether the company really gives a hoot what we have to say about its decision to try charge the prank’s participants with indecent exposure and then fining...
2011 and what’s coming. →
Love that this post illustrates that it is less about the camera you use and more about how you take your photo that matters. Sure, the better cameras can take far better photos than an iPhone with better lenses and all that stuff but you can do some awesome work with a point and shoot and good technique.

Amateur photography: Not quite in The Zone @... →
I had yet another minor altercation with mall security over my tendency to take photos of places that appeal to me yesterday. I was at the The Zone @ Rosebank yesterday and was told I can’t take photos without permission.
I was tempted to have yet another rant on my blog about it but really didn’t have the energy for yet another bitch about not being able to take photos in a mall....

Client: “I’m afraid I can’t afford the monthly figure at the moment.”
Me: “Oh no - that’s hourly.”
Client: ”I could get a stripper for that!”
Me: ”If she’s as good with Photoshop as I am, then she is the better deal.”
I should keep this around for prospective clients!
