I stepped into an academic bookstore yesterday to update one of my books and I was floored by the price of the books there.  One of the books was an updated Evidence Law textbook I used in Law School over a decade ago.  The updated version is almost R1 000 … for a book … in a university bookshop.  Yikes! The academic publishers really need to get with the times and publish...

Evernote: a quick public service post
I have been an Evernote user for some time now and have just renewed my premium subscription to the service in the last month or so. I have a couple friends who had terrible experiences in the last month or two where they lost a lot of valuable information and documents through theft. I discovered that some of my friends are in the habit of using a paper diary (that still seems weird to me) and...

Scrapping with PowerPoint with Di@Legacy4Life:... →
My friend, Diana, is a passionate scrapbooker and has published a terrific ebook on how to scrapbook with PowerPoint.  This is a fantastic resource if you are also passionate about scrapbooking and digital scrapbooking in particular.  The ebook costs $4,99 for the month of July, down from its regular price of $9,99.  Well worth it.

Even Female Law Partners Suffer Wage...
newsweek: equalitymyth: Jesse’s got a new Newsweek piece about wage disparity in the legal profession—even among the best lawyers at the most elite firms. A new study found those women, within the highest ranks of the most respected firms, make, on average, $66,000 each year less than men. First of all: ouch, apparently we’re in the wrong field. But second: double ouch, that is totally...

You're A Wimp - The Daddy Complex: Shit They Don't... →
After my wife and I feed the boys their last bottle for the night, they reach up indicating they want to snuggle on our shoulders. They do this every night. My wife and I sit in silence for a few minutes cuddling with whichever baby we fed. Two nights ago, as I snuggled with Wyatt, he leaned back…

Lancet Labs doesn't respect your privacy
Gina, my wife, has just a shocking experience with Lancet Laboratories, one of South Africa’s biggest pathologists and one of the two main companies that handle blood tests and other pathology services. You can read the full story on her blog but the bottom line is that Lancet seems to be in the habit of sending statements with details of medical tests done to the wrong patients. This is...

theSQL is an active little one at 13 weeks
Well, we just reach the (roughly) 13 week mark with our growing family member, theSQL. We had the scan this morning and this little one just didn’t stop moving around. theSQL is still pretty much on course for a 7/8 January 2011 arrival and our doctor is very happy with theSQL’s progress. It is still a little too early to tell whether theSQL is a girl or boy. We should have more...

“Trade union Solidarity expressed its shock over figures indicating that Eskom’s...”
– I am with the unions on this one (please don’t strike and leave us in the dark). Eskom’s execs have a cheek taking such a big increase when their company battles to build capacity to cover our needs. Hopefully the unions (please don’t strike and leave us in the dark) will be able...

Itchy hands
Sheesh, my hands are so itchy all of a sudden.  They’ve been getting progressively worse all day and I have no idea why.  They are driving me a bit nutty and Google said the causes could be anything from allergic reactions to leukemia.  I stopped asking Google what the cause is. Just in case this means I am about to come into some huge amount of money, I bought a Powerball ticket. I...
