Introducing our next great adventure, code-named...
Well, its official now, we are pregnant again! Following in the tradition of our first little one who we designated “Sprout” while he was making his way into the world, we have designated Aaron’s tiny sibling “theSQL” (official hashtag is #theSQL). Gina has just published the news on her blog in her post titled “How to fall pregnant in 12 easy...

Facebook's sheer size
I’m reading through the wave on Read/Write Web from the Facebook media event yesterday and came across this Q&A which offers a perspective on Facebook’s size:
Q (Liz Gaines from GigaOm): Can you give us some more context about how this outcry against the privacy changes compares to earlier changes? Did people leave the site?
A (Zuckerberg): Newsfeed was the biggest backlash...

Late night productivity tweaks with OmniFocus and...
The one disadvantage of having an Android phone, for me at least, is that I can’t get OmniFocus for my phone. OmniFocus is probably one of the best productivity applications around but I’ve started wondering if my inability to access my task lists when I am not in front of my MacBook (quite often actually) is impairing my general level of productivity? I took a look at Remember The...

Tweeting about poor service can be more effective...
I started my practice about 4 and a half years ago. I initially approached Standard Bank when I started my practice and opened accounts with the bank. I requested an overdraft to get me through what I expected would be a difficult first few months and my application was turned down because my new practice hadn’t demonstrated an adequate track record to justify an overdraft. I pointed out...

Scanning books into GoodReads using an Android...
I signed up for GoodReads a while ago, partly because I want to create an online catalogue of all my books. The problem is that it takes a while to add them all to my library on the site itself. I went looking for a solution for my HTC Desire, an Android phone, and found the following process which works reasonably well:
It something that’s just called “Barcode Scanner v3.2”...

We're all just a bunch of dumb f**ks to Mark...
Business Insider has published an extract from an IM conversation Mark Zuckerberg had with a friend soon after he launched The Facebook just over 6 years ago which may give a stark insight into his attitude towards Facebook’s users and their privacy:
Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard
Zuck: Just ask.
Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS

Have aliens hijacked Voyager 2 spacecraft? →
How weird is this?
frakintosh:
wilwheaton:
I sure hope this is true, and not some kind of malfunction:
It left Earth 33 years ago, now it’s claimed the Voyager 2 spacecraft may have been hijacked by aliens after sending back data messages NASA scientists can’t decode.
NASA installed a 12-inch disk containing music and greetings in 55 languages in case intelligent extraterrestrial life ever...

MS Word hates lawyers and here is proof!
As most people who know me, know, I am a lawyer and I tend to draft a number of agreements and similar documents. Microsoft Word is the standard word processor in the legal industry and it has all the formatting bells and whistles we need to do what we do properly. I have used Pages and OpenOffice in the past and neither of them have everything I need as a lawyer to create properly structured...

Our fancy new banner
We got our new banner today from Hands On Graphics. We are sponsoring a charity event at the end of the month and decided we needed a banner to help promote our firm so we approached Dion at Hands On to create the banner for us.
We like it. The photo is of the Constitutional Court courtroom. It worked out pretty well and we have the banner up in our office for a little bit.

Procrastination
Jeez, the last few days have been shocking work days. Not because I am busy (which I haven’t been, not nearly enough) or because I don’t have work to do (I have loads) but because I have been stuck in this procrastination rut since late last week. I don’t know where my mind has been …
… but it hasn’t been focussed on my lengthening task list …
