Lots more photos of Ariela
I just added more photos of my niece, Ariela, and I couldn’t help but notice how much she has changed in the last few weeks. Here is a photo when she was a day or so old:

Lindsay Lohan arrested!
It looks like Lindsay Lohan is competing with Paris Hilton on another level. Lohan was arrested yesterday on suspicion of being under the influence when she drove her 2005 Mercedes SL-65 into the curb on Sunset Boulevard at around 5:30am. Police on the scene found a substance they believe to be cocaine. Lohan sustained minor injuries and her passengers were apparently unhurt. (Source: CNN)
No Nokia N95 for me for now ...
Aside from my hesitation to rush out and get myself a Nokia N95 because of the poor battery life, I have another reason to pass for the time being. I received a call from an MTN shop this morning to tell me that the phone is available and the price is now R1 600 (up from R999) with my contract. That is a lot of money to have to pay for the phone so I will be sticking with my Nokia 6630 for...

Brilliant! The question was as follows: “The IOL Poll today asked readers: Have you bought a heater this winter?”
The problem with strikes
The problem with striking workers in South Africa is that it is often difficult to tell the difference between when they are on strike and when they are on duty …
You're not going to believe your eyes!
I have been watching this video and can barely believe what I am seeing. It seems totally the opposite of what you would expect to see in nature.

Sitting in my garden
I’m sitting in my garden with the puppies. Just thought I’d shoot a short video of them wandering around.

Getting comfy
When we got home last night Bandit wanted to be lifted up onto the bed. He made a beeline for Gina’s one pillow and started making himself comfortable:
You’ll see he grabs the pillow with his mouth. The puppies do that when they need to move things like...
Blackout in Joburg
Cooking by candlelight.jpg
We had a huge blackout last night that must have covered half of Johannesburg. It hit us around 6:45pm when I was in the middle of an IM meeting with my partner in chilibean, Victoire. I had also just started making supper so we didn’t even have something ready to eat. I...
Blackout in Joburg
There is a massive power outage in Joburg at the moment. We had just started supper when the power went out. Thank goodness my mom cooks on gas. I am finishing supper at her house by candle and torch light.

Superman inspires me
It may sound a bit silly but sometimes when things get tough I listen to the soundtracks for Batman Begins and Superman Returns and find my inspiration in there. The ideal of Superman is an awesome ideal and the thought of emulating some of the spirit of the character is a powerful motivation.
We're pregnant!
The day has finally arrived and I can blurt the news to everyone! We went for our 12 week scan today and we can officially announce that we are pregnant. We have set up a blog called The Diary of Sprout where we will chronicle te life of our little Sprout and the many issues and challenges we encounter as new parents. And with that, here is Sprout:

Taking a break
office golf
It feels like I have been working every day for months now. I haven’t really. I have had days where I haven’t worked more than a couple hours and have had chunks of the weekends where I haven’t worked but it still feels like I have been at it constantly. Maybe it feels that way...
QotD: Search Me
How well does your name Google? Who are you up against? (Celebrities, etc.) Submitted by Matt Blank.
Pretty well actually. On Google.com I appear half a dozen times or so on the front page (10 results) and on Google.co.za I pretty much dominate the search results.

A couple handy tips if you use Netvibes as your start page. I am sure the same ideas could be used in iGoogle or Pageflakes.
Early morning lifts
I just got back home after helping Gina drop her car off for repair and to pick up a rental car. Completely forgot about buying a heater for our bedroom and came straight home for breakfast.
It also doesn’t help that I just want to go back to bed … at least I am not working tomorrow …
An attorney meets with a client
Client: We need to think out of the box on how to package this deal. We need to get creative.
Boss: Well there are a number of ways to go about it, there is even the possibility for a managment buy out, if there is an appetite for one...but that takes monster sized kahunii's"
Client: I am sorry, monster sized whats?
Boss: kahunii's
Client: I am black I do not speak afrikaans.
A great thing about working from home ...
… is that I can have lunch with my wife, spend time with my puppies and not have to commute.
A site that does 200 000 hits a year? Cute.
I was just invited to pay R500 to R1 000 to have my logo on a website that has around 200 000 hits/visits (the sales lady wasn’t too sure) a year. How cute. I do more than that in a month on one of my blogs and I don’t have to pay R500 to R1 000 for that.
The battle of the bowl
I shot this video this morning. The puppy on the right is Bandit and the one on the left (and growling) is Stuart. The two boys tend to go for the same bowl and Stu gets really territorial about his bowl. Bandit doesn’t really give a stuff and keeps going for the bowl so Stu moves it away from Bandit. Ultimately they both wind up eating from the same bowl quite happily.

Making regular phone calls via a Mac
I don’t suppose anyone knows how to make regular phone calls from a Mac. I’m not talking about VOIP calls, just plugging in my phone line and using my headset instead of picking up the phone and making a regular call?

Nick the dragon slayer - a joke
I just got this from Gina. It is very funny!
Nick the Dragon Slayer Once upon a time lived a beautiful Queen with large breasts. Nick the Dragon Slayer obsessed over the Queen for this reason. He knew that the penalty for his desire would be death should he try to touch them, but he had to try. One day Nick revealed his secret desire to his colleague, Horatio the Physician, the King’s...
Skype calls within South Africa
I just made a call over Skype to a landline within South Africa and it cost me R0.40 more to use Skype than it would have if I had used my landline. That is nuts!

Introducing Baby Sack
We got some photos from my sister this morning so without further ado, here is Olivia’s and Len’s little girl:
Now isn’t she a gorgeous baby. She will be named on Saturday (custom) so we’ll know her name then. I am still not quite used to the idea of my sister as a mommy. I think they will be amazing parents and I hope they send lots more photos soon!
